The road to romance and marriage may not be smooth and straight, but these days it’s more likely that the woman will be the one driving.  At least on a date.  An unscientific survey by LeaseTrader.com found that 33 percent of women drove on dates in 2009, compared with 24 percent in 2008 and 14 percent in 2005.  Among women in relationships, about 28 percent did the driving in 2009, an increase from 26 percent in 2008 and 10 percent in 2005.

Their reasons are mixed.  Most said they feel safer in their own car; others cited not liking their date’s car, liking their own car too much, or wanting to impress their dates by doing the driving.

Before I was a Mom…

I slept as late as I wanted and never worried about how late I got into bed.  I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was a Mom…

I cleaned my house each day.  I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.  I didn’t worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.  I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom…

I had never been puked on – pooped on – spit on – chewed on, or peed on.  I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.  I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom…

I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests…or give shots.  I never looked into teary eyes and cried.  I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.  I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom…

I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn’t want to put it down.  I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn’t stop the hurt.  I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.  I never knew that I could love someone so much.  I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom…

I didn’t know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.  I didn’t know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.  I didn’t know that bond between a mother and her child.  I didn’t know something so small could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Mom…

I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay.  I had never known The warmth, The joy, The love, The heartache, The wonderment or the satisfaction of being a Mom.  I didn’t know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

Happy Mother’s Day from A-Z Tech Automotive!

April 22, 2010 is Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work Day.  Exposing children to what their parents or mentors do all day shows them the value of education, helps them discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work and family life, and provides them with an opportunity to share how they see their future.

A taxpayer looked nervous as he conversed with an IRS tax auditor, who was reviewing the taxpayer’s records.  “Uh huh,” the auditor said to himself as he worked through the papers.  The taxpayer shifted uncomfortably in his seat.

The auditor adjusted his glasses and said, “Mr. Smith, we at the IRS feel it’s a great privilege to live and work in the United States.  And as a U.S. citizen, you have an obligation to pay taxes – and we expect you to pay them eagerly with a smile.”

“Oh, thank goodness,” Mr. Smith said, wearing a giant grin on his face. “I thought you were going to want me to pay with cash.”

Next to Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny is probably the most beloved bringer of gifts to small children.  This famous symbol of spring was originally associated with Eostre, a German goddess of fertility who was often depicted with a rabbit companion.

Both rabbits and eggs, not surprisingly, are considered symbolic of fertility.

The bunny as a symbol of Easter was first mentioned in German writings during the 16th century, and edible bunnies made of pastry and sugar were made in Germany during the 19th century.  The Easter Bunny was introduced to American children by German settlers in the Pennsylvania Dutch region in the 1700s.

Children were encouraged to build colorful nests and hide them in their homes. If the children had been good, the Osterhase would leave brightly colored eggs in the nests.

A couple arrives at an auto repair shop to pick up their car after a tune-up.   They’re told the keys have been accidentally locked inside.

At the service department, they find a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver’s side door.

As the husband watches from the passenger’s side, he tries the door handle and discovers that it’s unlocked.

“Hey,” he calls to the mechanic, “It’s open!”

“I know,” the young guy replies.  “I already got that side.”

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from A-Z Tech Automotive!

Time for some New Year’s resolutions? Here are some silly ones:

  • Stop sitting in my living room all day in my pajamas.  Instead, I will move my computer into the bedroom.
  • Figure out why I really need 12 e-mail addresses.
  • Think of a computer password other than “password.”
  • Stop sending e-mail, text messages, and instant messages to people when I’m already on the phone with them.
  • Spend more time with neglected children – my own.

Happy New Year from A-Z Tech Automotive!
