Auto Repair Facility: Choosing an Honest One

Everyone knows someone who has a horror story about car repairs. Hopefully, it isn’t you. An honest auto repair facility is something everyone wants. But how do you find one? Here are a few tips to help you along.

Talk to other car owners, industry professionals, or read reviews
You may find that a particular service provider’s name keeps coming up, either in a good or bad way. If you are reading reviews, look for the overall rating. If a shop has lots of reviews and is still getting a very high average rating, it is probably a good choice.

Look for certifications and affiliations
A good technician should be at least ASE certified and some shops are also AAA approved. Membership in other professional associations can also indicate a commitment to quality and professionalism.

Ask questions
An experienced and knowledgeable technician or service manager should be able to give a good explanation of your repair and answer any questions you have. Poor customer relations can be a sign of an unprofessional attitude.

Ask for the bad parts
You always have the right to at least see the bad parts. Most places will actually give them back to you if you ask. Sometimes there is a core charge, meaning the servicer is given a credit for returning the bad parts to the supplier. But don’t let that be an excuse, you should still be able to at least see it. If a shop is really dodging this request, they could be trying to sell you repairs you don’t need.

Finding a high quality auto repair facility can require some effort. But the peace of mind you will have knowing that your car is being repaired properly will be well worth it.
